At 3 p.m., Mr. Leong officially start chess competition in 26th SEA Games. Categories to be competed in the first day are mixed pair chess, Asean chess, and blindfold chess. Indonesia as the host of this event is preferred in mixed pair chess category. In this category, Indonesia put down their best chess players, GM Susanto Megaranto and WGM Irene Kharisma Sukandar. In blindfold chess category, Vietnam player, GM Le Quang Liem and Philippines player, GM John Paul Gomez are nominated to get the gold medal. While in the other category, Asean chess, Myanmar and Thailand players, Wynn Zaw Htun and Kongsee Uaychai have the most chance to get gold medal.
In this day, enthusiasm of audiences are excellent, blend with technical committee. Although, the situation in chess playing hall is quiet enough. The surprising in this venue is regulation about mobile phone. The committee will collet fine US$100 for all audiences, players, officials, even committees who had their mobile phone rang in the playing hall. So, be careful..
