MALAYSIA Vs SINGAPORE CHESS CHALLENGE - HISTORY
1985 – The annual match
between Malaysia and Singapore started . This social gathering of chess players
from the two countries dated back to 1985 when the first match was hosted in
Kuala Lumpur by the Malaysian Chess Federation.
At that time, the match was played over only 20 boards. The
victory was the Singaporean team which notched a 21 1/2-18 1/2 win over their
Malaysian counterpart.
1987- In the second match
two years later in Singapore, it was the Malaysian team's win with a 9 1/2-6
1/2 score over the Singaporeans.
1990 - the third match
Malaysia-Singapore match again played in Singapore, this time over 26 boards
and four rounds, and the score was a flattering 62 1/2-41 1/2 in the
Singaporeans' favour.
1993 - MCF and the
Singapore Chess Federation have decided that beginning with the 1993
Malaysia-Singapore match will be contested annually to cement the close ties
between the two countries. The 1993 annual match was played in Kuala Lumpur and
Malaysia won 33-19 over the visitors. This marked the first of three
consecutive wins by the Malaysians as they also won the 1994 and 1995 matches.
1994 the Malaysians won
the Malaysia - Singapore Match by 71-33 in Singapore
1995 1st round of the
Malaysia-Singapore Match was played at Malaysia, Malaysia won 36-24. The
popularity of this match was such that in 1995, there were even two matches
played. The second such match in 1995 was played in Singapore and it was won by
the Singaporeans with a very close 30 1/2-29 1/2 result.
1996 Malaysia-Singapore
Annual match went Malaysia's way by a 40-20 result.
1997 Malaysia beat
Singapore 74-46 in the Malaysia-Singapore match
1998 Malaysia beat
Singapore 44.5-23.5 in the Annual Malaysia- Singapore Match held in KL.
1999 Malaysia beat Singapore 45.5-38.5 in the Annual
Malaysia-Singapore tournament held in Singapore.
2000 Malaysia won the Annual
Malaysia - Singapore match for the fifth consecutive years held at KL.
2001 Singapore won the Annual
Malaysia-Singapore match held at Singapore (42.5-47.5)
2002 Singapore won the Annual Malaysia- Singapore Match
2003 Singapore won the Annual
Malaysia - Singapore Match (64-76) held in Singapore
2010
Singapore win the 2010 Malaysia-Singapore Chess Challange ( Dato Tan Kim Yeow
Trophy) by a point margin - 76.5-75.5. The tournament was held in Citytel
Express, (at Chow Kit Road) , KL from 15th-17th February 2010 ( During Chinese
New year!?). There was 4 rounds with two classical time control and two rapid.
The Singapore now lead the annual match which started in 1985 ( 10-9).

Nota Peribadi
Kejohanan Catur persahabatan di antara Negara Malaysia
dan Singapura dengan sokongan oleh Dato Tan Chin Nam (Presiden Seumur
Hidup MCF) adalah satu kejohanan berprestij
yang berlangsung selama 21 pertemuan. Kenangan dan kejayaan para pemain dan pegawai yang terlibat dari tahun 1985 – 2013 sepatutnya
diberikan kredit kerana mereka adalah pemain pelapis Negara yang terbaik di
peringkat remaja dan national. Ini juga menjadi tanda aras persaingan sihat diantara negara jiran Singapura.
Saya menerajui Kejohanan
ini selaku Ketua Delegasi MCF membawa
kontingen besar di 4 pertemuan terakhir.
Pemangkin azam dan Cabaran saya adalah pada tahun 2007 di Singapura apabila saya membawa 100+ delegasi tanpa sebarang
biaya daripada MCF. Saya mengeluarkan
belanja RM4,000+ untuk memberi elaun
makan malam untuk para pemain apabila kami tidak diberikan elaun oleh
penganjur. Kami pernah dihina kerana selama 8 tahun/pertemuan kami kalah
berturut-turut dan keputusan kami tidak begitu baik. Presiden/penganjur mengingatkan kami yang
MALAYSIA tidak layak bersaing dengan mereka dan Pihak mereka lebih prefer mengadakan perlawanan
persahabatan dengan Negara Turkey.
Saya berasa sebak
dan ada Parent yang keluar daripada closing ceremony. Kami pulang daripada Tanjung Pagar –
Singapura mengunakan pengangkutan Keretapi dengan keadaan rendah diri / perasaan terguris dan semangat baru. Selama 2 tahun Kejohanan
ini direhatkan.
Pada Feb 2010
(Raya Cina) pertemuan persabatan terbina
kembali. Kali ini Keputusan result kami
kalah tipis dengan 1 mata yang di perlukan daripada pemain terakhir IM Mok Tse
Meng tapi beliau tewas dan mata keseluruhan tidak memihak pada kami. Kejohanan ini dibawah event DATCC di CITITEL Express, Kuala Lumpur
Dis 2010 / Jan
2011: Tahun baru di Singapura.
TANPA BANTUAN KEWANGAN daripada MCF dan Dato Tan kami berjuang dan
memperolehi KEJAYAAN. Kami terpaksa
meminta RM100 daripada setiap pemain untuk membayar tiket Keretapi ke Singapura,
dan kos-kos secretariat, banner dsb. Penginapan untuk kejohanan disediakan oleh
pihak penganjur .
23-24 NOVEMBER
2013: HADIAH BIRTHDAY yang tidak dapat dilupakan saya yang
jatuh pada 24 NOV. MALAYSIA MENANG!!!!. Diharapkan kejayaan ini akan melekat sehingga
8 tahun lagi. Kali ini kejohanan ini
berlangsung di CITITEL MidValley, Kuala Lumpur.
Buat pertama kalinya pemain Malaysia – Official diberikan bilik Hotel
dan elaun Makan. Terima Kasih Dato’ Tan Chin Nam dan
Daniel I Yong ( IGB Sponser). T-shirt sponsor daripada En Mahmood Shah (Ismail Ahmad)
